Rising sprinting sensation Beatrice Masilingi scooped gold in the 200- and 400-metre races at the Confederation of African Athletics in Mauritius.

Christine Mboma also showed her mettle as she came third in the

3 000m race at the competition.

Namibian athletes who left for Mauritius on Wednesday competed in the African Junior Championships over the weekend. They were javelin thrower Ludwig Huber, Karlien Botha (shot put and discus), Christine Mboma (800m) and Beatrice Masilingi (200m and 400m).

Masilingi and Mboma were in May awarded scholarships to further their studies at a school that will enhance their athletic talents.

The two regional athletes scooped a combined six gold medals at this year's Cossasa games that were recently held in Botswana.

Masilingi scooped gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 400m, setting records in all three events. She also won gold in the u-17 girls relay event.

Mboma won the 800m and 1 500m and walked away with two gold medals.
