Man kills pregnant lover with axe
A man allegedly killed his 16-year-old pregnant girlfriend and hanged himself on Friday evening. According to the police, the 34-year-old man repeatedly hit his girlfriend with an axe at around 23:00 on a farm 100km east of Dordabis.
The two were apparently from Gobabis and were employed on the farm.
The victim was between four and six months pregnant and had reportedly called her family, complaining that her boyfriend was abusing and mistreating her, according to the police.
The family then demanded to speak to her boyfriend and even threatened to come to the farm with the police to get the girl.
The police said the family told the girl that she should get ready and they would come to get her.
However, when the victim entered the room her boyfriend followed her and an argument ensued.
The man apparently kept assaulting the woman outside before stumbling upon an axe, which he used to hit the victim repeatedly resulting in her death.
The man left the scene and was found hanging from a tree nearby.
In another incident on Sunday, a nine-year-old girl was raped by a man whose age is not known.
The incident happened at Okaku in the Oshikuku Constituency.
According to the police, the man is a neighbour of the victim and had apparently called her to his sleeping room where he proceeded to have sexual intercourse with her.
The suspect is not yet arrested and investigation continues.
In a separate incident, a one-year-old child drowned in a bucket of water on Friday at about 11:00, at Onandjandja village.
The police has also opened a case of murder at Oshikushomunghete village in the Oshikuku Constituency after the body of a baby boy of approximately two to three months old was found floating on top of a dam near Omunghete Combined School.
The boy was fully dressed and his body was discovered by a villager.
No suspect has been arrested and it is suspected that the body was thrown into the dam. The body was taken to the police mortuary to conduct a post mortem in order to determine the cause of death. According to the police the incident could have occurred anywhere during the month of June.
Meanwhile in the Erongo Region, deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu confirmed the arrest of a 31-year-old male suspect in connection with an attempted murder case involving a shooting incident in Kuisebmond last week.
During the shooting incident, Josefine Elifas, 32, was hit in her lower right arm by a stray bullet while sleeping in inside her house.
She was taken to Walvis Bay State Hospital and subsequently transferred to Katutura State hospital for further medical treatment and her condition is reported to be stable.
