Domestic football in Zambia is set to resume on 18 July, it was confirmed on Tuesday, with Namibian sensational defender Teberius Lombard eyeing a great return to the pitch.
Lombard was the first Namibian player to make a move to the Zambian Super League and is the only one still in the country, with club Zanaco ecstatic that he will be getting back to the field.
Lombard joined Zanaco from Lusaka Dynamos in 2019 on a two-year contract. Others such as Petrus Shitembi and Awillo Stephanus also had stints in the league.
'Authorities are looking at matches to be completed in a six-week period.
“I'm very happy indeed as football is our bread. It's been a very bad time for all of us; it has been stressful time just being home as well because we are so used to training, but I'm very happy with the news.
“We started training last week Wednesday and I hope that we can all respect the guidelines in order for things to run smoothly,” Lombard said.
Trophy hunt continues
Football Association of Zambia president Andrew Kamanga has confirmed the date when the top two divisions in the country are set to resume their season, with the top flight in particular set for an intriguing finish. No fewer than five sides are in strong contention for the title, though who can shake off the rust quicker after what will be four months without matches may determine the destination of the trophy.
Forest Rangers lead the league with 46 points from their 24 games, followed by Napsa Stars (45 from 25), Green Eagles (44 from 24), Nkana (43 from 24) and Zesco United (42 from 24). Lombard's Zanaco is 10th on the log with 35 points from 21 games.
