Katupose stunned by wrong advice

Striker Muna Katupose, who is battling a knee injury, has been rewarded for his heroics that secured Brave Warriors' participation at the Chan finals in Morocco.

Injured Brave Warriors striker Muna Katupose's recovery has been delayed by the wrong advice he was given by a doctor.

The player has been struggling with a knee injury he picked up last year. According to Katupose, the first doctor he visited informed him that they were going to operate on his knee, in order for him to recover.

Katupose, however, met another doctor who told him that he did not need an operation, only specific fitness treatments for him to get better.

As a result, the player's recovery had been delayed and he has remained on the sidelines since last year.

This has been the reason why the player has not been able to play for the national team or even move to other clubs in South Africa.

“I do believe that I will be able to get better with time, because I now have the right doctor,” Katupose said.

Nafpu windfall

The Namibia Football Players Union (Nafpu) yesterday handed the injured Brave Warriors striker a N$5 000 cheque for his heroic displays in the country's African Nations Champion (Chan) qualifiers.

Katupose's brace in the final Chan qualifier against Comoros secured the Brave Warriors a place at the finals of the competition in Morocco, where they reached the quarterfinals.

The striker came off the bench and scored two brilliant goals which were enough to send his country to Morocco.

Namibia's 2-0 victory at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in the return leg of their qualifier against Comoros, came after they lost the away leg 1-0 against the islanders.

A delighted Katupose said he was grateful for being recognised by the football union.

“I am very happy for the recognition I got from Nafpu, because I do believe that I deserve it. I will use this money for my treatment because I want to be back on the pitch,” the player said.

It was also his last-minute goal that guaranteed Namibia a place in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) a few years ago.

“We are rewarding Muna Katupose because people often tend to forget the players that have done great things for the nation.

“We found it important as the players' union to help Katupose with this money, because we know that he needs it for further treatment on his knee.

“He did not represent Namibia at the Chan finals, but he was the reason the team got there,” Nafpu secretary-general Olsen Kahiriri said yesterday.
