Heavy storms to lash regions
There has been a slight increase in dam levels, while more rain is expected in most parts of the country in the coming days.
The Namibia Meteorological Service has warned that heavy storms are expected in the Kavango, Zambezi, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, Khomas and Hardap regions today and tomorrow and said people must take the necessary precautions. Meanwhile, water supply from the Hardap Dam to the irrigation scheme was once again stopped on Sunday night. NamWater allowed a supply of one million cubic metres of water for about a week to the irrigation scheme.
According to the dam bulletin the level of the Hardap Dam is currently at 6.5%, down from the 6.8% that it was last week.
The average level of the dams in Namibia has increased from 20.9% to 21.1% after some inflow was recorded in the Von Bach, Friedenau and Bondels dams.
The Von Bach Dam received an inflow of 3.2 million cubic metres of water, pushing the level up from 37.7% to 44.5%.
The Friedenau Dam received an inflow of 0.009 million cubic metres of water. Its level increased from 21.2% to 21.4%.
Meanwhile, the Bondels Dam had an inflow of 0.410 million cubic metres of water and its level now stands at 37.2%. Last week it was empty.
The average of the dams in the central area of Namibia also increased slightly from 20.6% to 22.4%. Last season the level of the dams stood at 25.1%.
The average of the dams in the south dropped from 23% to 22.7%. Last season the dam levels stood at 44.7%. The average of the northern dams remains at 1.9%, in comparison to last season when the dams were empty.
