An elderly woman died when a group of German tourists on a hunting trip in Namibia were involved in an car accident near Steinhausen in the Omaheke Region on Monday.
According to Omaheke Police Commissioner Josephat Abel, the accident happened on the Steinhausen road about 100 km north-west of Gobabis.
The group of four Germans and one Namibian were on their way to the Klip-Kop Lodge near Otjiwarongo from the farm Hetako near Steinhausen.
Abel said the cause of the accident appeared to be loose wheel nuts which caused a wheel to fall off.
"The vehicle left the road and overturned, rolling three times and landing on its wheels," Abel said.
The deceased has been identified as Josefine Katharina Tillman, 77, from Blankenheim Ripsdorf in Germany. Two other tourists and the Namibian travelling with them were seriously injured and rushed to the Gobabis State Hospital. They have since been transferred to Windhoek.
The other injured people are Wilhelm Peter Tillmann, 84, Ida Lexen, 43, and the Namibian, Katjitjeto Handrich, 33. The driver of the vehicle, who is also German and lives at Klip-Kop Lodge, Alfred Klause Bross (56), did not sustain any injuries.
