FS Stars line up Mwedihanga
South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Free State Stars have lined up Namibian defender Willem Mwedihanga as a potential signing, as the team is catching up with their preparations for the new season after a failed attempt by the club management to sell their PSL status.
As revealed by the Siya crew, Ea Lla Koto have added former Maritzburg United defender, David Booysen, to the squad already.
Newly appointed Stars coach Denis Lavagne was left short of players in his squad, as well as an important member of his technical team after the club’s decision to allow them to leave.
The Bethlehem outfit sold influential central defender Justice Chabalala, as well as Sello Japhta and Ayanda Nkosi to Orlando Pirates.
The club also allowed Bradley Carnell, who was the team’s assistant coach, to join Mushin Ertugral at Pirates.
Sources close to Stars have confirmed that Mwedihanga is one of the players earmarked to possibly fill the gap in the team’s defence.
“Willem Mwedihanga will be on his way to Free State Stars, if all goes according to plan. He could be at the club before the end of the week to start training with the team,” said the source.
The Namibian defender has been on the books of the University of Pretoria, and the 30-year-old had an incredible record of being the only Tuks player who started all 30 league games for the side last season.
In other news from the Free State club, Stars are believed to be considering travelling to Johannesburg for their preseason camp.
