Fishrot can make or break Swapo

Toivo Ndjebela
Corruption – just like sunset and sunrise – will always occur. Because of this inevitability, our only consolation as a people is how strongly we emerge from such experiences. In the case of death, prominent South Africa political analyst Prince Mashele noted that “the children who refuse to leave the graveside after burying their father who was a breadwinner are bound to succumb to starvation”. It thus means when that pillar of support, the dead father, falls, strong forces must emerge from within the family to assume leadership and be the breadwinners. The current storm brewing in the Fishrot saga can be handled too in a manner that those who survive going to jail must emerge stronger and with a renewed sense to do what is right. Instead, what we are witnessing in Namibia today is frantic efforts that actually border on defending what has transpired. In the case of Swapo, it's not denials of Fishrot accusations that would enhance the image of the party in the eyes of the masses but how the party handles the matter internally, including hauling over the coals those who have brought the party's name into disrepute. But then again, if evidence presented so far is anything to go by, those who ought to lead the clean-up campaign are entangled in the Fishrot web themselves. Fishrot has two dimensions in the context of Swapo. It could either make the party strong, or completely wipe it off the face of earth.
