Nothing could have prepared a 35-year-old single father to find a perpetrator raping his five-year-old daughter.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, told Namibian Sun that he could not believe his eyes when he marched into a shack belonging to the alleged rapist, Tulonga Shuudifonya, at the Othimbika village in the Oshikoto Region.
Shuudifonya (29) is now behind bars and a case of rape has been opened against him by the State. He appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday and his case has been postponed to an unannounced date. He remains in police custody for further police investigations.
According to a police report, the incident took place on Wednesday, 20 January, at about 18h00 when the five-year-old girl was walking home from a cuca shop she had been sent to by her grandmother.
On her way home, Shuudifonya lured her to told his place and allegedly raped her. The victim was found by her father after he followed their footprints to the shack.
Heartbreaking scene
“I barged into the room and saw my little girl getting off the bed. She was naked and only had the top on. Tulonga was also naked,” the father recounted.
“Shaking in fear, I asked what was going on. There was confusion that followed. I then made a call to the police and to one of the neighbors to come and assist me,” he said.
Oshiko regional police commander Armas Shivute said the victim was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
No physical injuries were detected on the victim during the examination, he said, adding that she was referred to the gender ministry for counselling.
Meanwhile, the father said his daughter is yet to speak to anyone from the ministry.
