Fans disappointed by Uhuru no-show
South African house music group ‘Uhuru’, who were supposed to launch their new album 'Our Father' at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay last week Sunday, did not show up.
The event was presented by CnoP Entertainment, an events management outfit run by Mshasho Records’ Knowledge Ipinge.
The event was scheduled for 19:00 and the stadium was packed to capacity with fans eager to see the South African band perform live.
The crowd was disappointed when they were informed by the organisers of the event at around midnight that ‘Uhuru’ was no longer going to perform.
“Five crew members [of Uhuru] were initially booked to travel from Johannesburg to Windhoek on December 22 at 09:50 but then they asked me to change their booking to the 14:25 flight to avoid them missing the earlier flights,†Ipinge told Nampa when he was approached for an explanation on Monday last week.
He said he sent some of his staff members to go to the Hosea Kutako International Airport to fetch the group and their management, but no one had showed up.
Ipinge explained that according to the airport records, Uhuru checked in but they never boarded the plane.
“Why Uhuru did not pitch up, I do not know,†he stated.
Uhuru is a newly formed group under the Kalawa Jazmee record label, and it is made up of four individuals, namely Maphorisa, DJ Clap, Xelimpilo and Mapiano.
The band is responsible for many hot songs that are currently heard in clubs and on radio, such as Mafikizolo’s ‘Khona and Happiness’, DJ Zinhle’s ‘My name Is’, Dr Malinga’s ‘Jika’ , DJ Vetkuk vs Mahoota’s ‘Not yet Uhuru’, Via Orlando and Stokvel remix and their own songs like the Thathisgubu remix, Y-Tjukutja and many other hit songs.
According to Ipinge, people who bought tickets to the show did not waste their money, as there were other DJs also performing, despite the disappointment by Uhuru.
Participating Namibian DJs included DJ K-Bozz, DJ Hou Vas, DJ Xavi, DJ Della D and Coke Boys.
“I was very disappointed that Uhuru did not perform, because I was looking forward to their performance,†a fan told Nampa on Tuesday last week.
Tickets cost N$50 in advance and N$100 at the gates.
