The Frank Fredericks Foundation and Alexander Forbes hosted the annual Frank Fredericks Foundation fundraising golf day at the Omeya Golf Club on Saturday.

The event attracted 17 teams with the aim to raise sport and academic scholarships for talented young Namibian athletes.

The introduction of a shotgun start, which saw all the teams teeing off at the same time, was a welcome addition to this year''s event.

Golfers also had an opportunity to get to know each other through fun networking activities. Alexander Forbes as co-host of the event entered nine teams, with invited golfers from various companies.

Furntech Agencies in conjunction with Samsung pledged their continued support of the annual golf day by sponsoring the prizes for the first three teams. Coca-Cola Namibia Bottling Company was the official soft drinks sponsor, while the Kombat Community Trust and Bank Windhoek also sponsored the event.

The Namibia National Olympic Committee team (N. Smit, L. Louw, E. Pretorius, T. Losper) were in first place and walked away with digital cameras sponsored by Furntech Agencies in conjunction with Samsung. The Patriot team (J. Martin, A. Smit, T. Gurirab, C. Fillemon) were in second place, winning microwave ovens, while the third-place winners Investec (S. Bonifatius, L. Tshoopara, P. Gabriel, B. Gasela) won Blueray player bundles with 3D glasses and movies.

The remaining top seven teams won prizes sponsored by Kombat Community Trust, Nomad African Spa, Mizuno, Bank Windhoek, Fredericks Business Trust and Coca-Cola:

Fourth place – IS Protector (110pts)

Fifth place – AF Administration Services (107pts c/o)

Seventh place – AF Consulting (104pts)

Eighth place – Plastic Packaging (101pts c/o)

Ninth place – AF A.R.T (101pts)

The nearest to the pin prize of N$2 000 was won by Dan Zweibel (FFF All Stars); whilst the most accurate drive prize of N$1 000 was won by S. Bonifatius (Investec). S. Salt, U. Felix, P. Gabriel and H. Siebert were the winners of the networking activities.

The highlight of the Frank Fredericks Foundation golf day was when golfers had the opportunity to meet and interact with Namibian Paralympic double silver medallist Johannes Nambala.

Zweibel paid homage to the Namibian hero by donating his prize money to Nambala.

Amos Shiyuka, Duan Jansen and Jan Coetzee followed suit by pledging N$2 000 each to Nambala following an auction.
