Explosion kills boy
An 11-year-old boy died at Epinga village in the Ohangwena Region last Friday, when an explosive device he and three other children were playing with exploded.
According to the police, Petrus Shitenu was killed, while three other children, aged four, five and seven, were injured and treated at a local hospital.
Over the long weekend, a cyclist was killed by a driver in a white Mercedes-Benz between Swakopmund and Arandis.
The police said while the cyclist was lying on the road injured, another vehicle drove over him.
The incident took place early on Thursday morning. The cyclist was declared dead on arrival at the Swakopmund state hospital. No arrest has been made.
Also on Thursday, a seven-year-old grade 1 learner sustained serious injuries when she was hit by a Toyota VVT-i driven by 56-year-old female driver in Oshakati.
The child is in a critical condition at the local state hospital.
During the very early hours of Friday morning, Fillemon Haimbondi, 48, a soldier from the Otavi military base, was killed when he was hit by a truck.
Several murders were reported.
On Thursday at around 21:00 in Damara Location in Windhoek, a Zimbabwean diplomat, 42, was stabbed to death, allegedly by his girlfriend, following a fight between the two. He was stabbed four times in the chest and died instantly.
The police said the suspect then consumed poison and is currently in the Katutura hospital under police guard.
On Friday at around midday in Wanaheda, a vendor selling items was fatally stabbed in the chest, allegedly because he spoke to someone's girlfriend and asked her to buy his goods.
According to eyewitnesses, the man stabbed Likwambi Panda Gabriel and walked away with his girlfriend. No arrest has been in made and the public is requested to come forward if they have information.
A foetus was found in a dustbin on the corner of Faraoh and Fillistine streets in Soweto, Windhoek, on Sunday at around midday. The police have no further information and request the public to come forward if they can assist in any way.
The police further reported that seven people died in six car accidents over the long weekend.
Six people were arrested - one in Khorixas, four in Gibeon and one in Walvis Bay - on charges of dealing in dagga. The estimated street value of the Gibeon and Walvis Bay busts is N$20 000. All the suspects appeared in their local magistrate's courts yesterday.
A woman at Rehoboth said she was gang-raped by five young men between 02:00 and 04:00 on Saturday morning. She told the police she was threatened with a screwdriver.
The police arrested two suspects, both aged 17, and the probe into the matter is ongoing.
At Karibib, at roughly 02:00, a 25-year-old man followed a woman, 18, home and raped her behind a building at the marble crusher. The suspect was arrested.
