Katrina Emvula is the risk advisory manager, particularly for cyber and technology risk, at Deloitte Namibia.
She is a hardworking employee that values helping others in everything she does.
Emvula grew up in the Oniipa constituency near Ondangwa and completed her matric at Ekulo Senior Secondary school in the Oshikoto Region.
She obtained an honours degree in informatics at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust). She started working at Deloitte in 2011 as an IT support helpdesk technician. After three years of being a support technician she grew an interest in becoming an IT auditor.
“Deloitte has a lot of offerings and IT auditing is one of the services offered. In 2014 I received an amazing opportunity to pursue a career in IT auditing,” Emvula said.
She was appointed as a junior IT audit consultant and is now a certified information systems auditor (CISA) and a manager at Deloitte Namibia.
“My job mostly involves working with people from all sorts of domains. Managing relationships, coaching others and mostly learning is some aspects that form part of my daily responsibilities. The element of people is an integral part of my work and I also have to perform and manage audit projects as well as meet deadlines,” she said.
Emvula described her biggest challenge in her career thus far as working with people that are not motivated to do better. “I use this as a learning point.”
Her greatest accomplishment so far is having made the decision to pursuit a career in IT auditing at Deloitte Namibia.
“It took a lot of discipline and courage to pursue a lower-paying job as a junior IT audit consultant compared to the position I used to have. I can now proudly say that it was worth the trials and discipline, and my efforts paid off.”
Emvula believes she has grown both as an individual and a skilled professional.
“This profession has groomed and taught me so much that I will forever be grateful for.
“Every day at work I am challenged to learn new things. Supervising, planning, allocating work, monitoring performance and compliance and building relationships are all part of my daily activities at work,” she said.
Emvula adds she loves and enjoys helping other people.
“These are my most unique qualities. I like to see the good in people, and in everything I do I try to focus on working with my environmental abilities.”
It is also this integral part of her personality and work ethic that inspires and drives her every day.
“I love helping people in whatever aspect of life. It helps me serve my life purpose. Being kind to people is really a motivator and it gives me happiness from within.”
Apart from her love for helping others and her love for her career, she has a great interest in agriculture as well.
Emvula plans to keep learning wherever she goes and in whatever she does. She urged young people to do what they love and to always work hard for what they want in life.
“Find what makes you happy, love it, work at it and everything will fall into place. And always remember to work hard at everything that you do and you will prosper.”
