Crash victims identified
Another victim of Monday's collision at Ondangwa has died in hospital, bringing to ten the death toll of two accidents that happened that day.
The police have released the names of eight of the ten people who died in two accidents on Monday. Two victims are yet to be identified.
Yesterday Namibian Sun reported that four people died when a Toyota Corolla they were travelling in collided head-on with an oncoming Toyota VVTI pickup at Okapya village in Ondangwa.
The number of fatalities increased to five when another passenger succumbed to her injuries at the Oshakati state hospital. She has not been identified yet.
Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi said the other four victims were identified as Selma Angnes Katshoona (35), Ipawa Hennock (13), Medusalem Nantinda (32) and Brunah Tuwilika Ndemupehafo Shapi (4).
A case of culpable homicide has been opened and police investigations continue. The other accident happened on the Linyanti-Sangwali road at Katima Mulilo when the driver of a Toyota Noah seven-seater lost control of the vehicle after a rear tyre burst, causing the vehicle to overturn. Four people died on the spot while one succumbed to injuries while being transported to hospital.
The five other occupants of the bus, including the driver, sustained serious injuries. So far only four of the five victims have been identified: Fidelis Masule Mukushi (71), Kazanga Isaac Ronmoss (19), Linda Mataa (21) and Mubita Nsozi (age unknown). The bus driver has been charged with culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence.
