Council yet to decide on CEO

WINDHOEK
The City of Windhoek says its management council is yet to determine how it intends to proceed with the appointment of a new CEO following a recent recruitment drive.
Namibian Sun had earlier reported that the City was considering restarting the entire process, despite current Roads Authority CEO Conrad Lutombi getting the nod to head the City ahead of Otjiwarongo municipality CEO Moses Matyayi, who came in second.
City spokesperson Harold Akwenye said clarity had to be provided by the council on the way forward.
“No communique has been received yet to say we will restart the process. It has to go to the council. i am waiting on a communique from the management committee on the way forward,” Akwenye said.
IPC unhappy
Municipal sources had last week told Namibian Sun that consideration had been made to restart the recruitment process.
The move is allegedly championed by the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), who felt the process was tainted. There is also talk that the City could hire a recruitment agency to carry out the exercise.
Approached for comment last week, chairperson of the management committee Ndeshihafela Larandja said she was not at liberty to discuss the move.
Meanwhile, the City has announced that its strategic executive for finance, Jennifer Comalie, has been appointed as its acting CEO, pending a permanent appointment.
The executive for human resources, George Mayumbelo, had been acting as CEO since the resignation of Robert Kahimise, who left for the Northern Electricity Distributor (NORED) in November last year.
The City of Windhoek management committee was also yet to provide guidance on the position of City Police chief, Akwenye said.
