Citi Dash to glory
Nedbank City Dash organisers have invited interested runners to make use of the opportunity to win big.
The biggest sporting event on the calendar, the 2018 Nedbank Citi Dash, is set to place on 23 June in the heart of Windhoek and will consist 5km and 10km running events, with the longer race open to athletes who can complete 10km in less than 50 minutes.
The event not only aims to showcase running talent, but the date has been set purposely to coincide with the Olympic Day, which is celebrated by millions of people in more than 160 countries worldwide.
In addition, it will also serve to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games with the mission of promoting fitness, wellbeing, culture and education, reinforced with the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.
Speaking at the launch on Tuesday, Nedbank's Elaine Schlechter invited all Namibians to take part in the much-anticipated race.
“I challenge corporates to enter teams, schools to enter and individuals to take up the fun challenge and join us on this exciting run in our beautiful CBD.
“For our serious runners, the 10km Citi Dash will be a real treat. With a cut-off time of less than 50 minutes, this category is specifically designed to showcase Namibia's running talent,” said Schlechter.
The City of Windhoek has also committed its full support to this event, with approval of Mayor Muesee Kazapua.
The mayor will avail essential services to the event, including the City Police, traffic and fire departments and the parks and recreation office's services.
Categories are elite male and female with N$15 000 prize money each, under-18 male and female with N$10 000 prize money each and the visually impaired and disabled/wheelchair categories with N$7 500 prize money each.
Ten N$1 000 spot prizes are also up for grabs in the Fun Run event.
The competition is designed to showcase Namibia's running talent and the route will take athletes up and down Independence Avenue, starting at Nedbank Namibia's office at Ausspanplatz, down to the Simon De Witt Bridge and returning to Nedbank, before taking a detour to Snyman Circle, where the race will end.
Entries are open and tickets are available from Events Today, PayToday app, all Airtime City vending machines, Eye Store in Maerua Mall and Cycletec.
