Celebrating World Music Day
The FNCC will ensure that World Music Day 2018 will be the hottest ever and a cold winter evening will not stop anyone.
World Music Day is just around the corner for the 23rd year in a row and will be an exciting time for aspiring as well as renowned artists. This celebration for music is a highly anticipated event in France and usually come with the summer season.
The FNCC aims to create the same atmosphere than in French streets at the beginning of the summer. The World Music Day is one of the biggest street music parties in France: thousands of events and performances take place all over the country. The event is celebrated on 21 June since the birth of the idea. The idea initially came from Joel Cohen, an American music producer working for the French National Radio. He intended to have a full music day to celebrate the summer solstice that usually announces the longest night of the year. In 1982, the French government officially implemented the event which quickly became popular. Now, the World Music Day is an international celebration and Namibia takes part to this!
Concerts will be performed in Windhoek at FNCC and throughout the country with participating artists from all walks of life for free, just for love of music. The World Music Day is a time to celebrate, to enjoy the moment thanks to music from everywhere and all genres. You will find several stages dedicated to a musical genre and you will be able to move among the market and food stalls to listen and discover all the musical propositions.
This year, an unprecedented opening will occur at the FNCC with the French jazz quintet OZMA and its cine-concert, The Lost World inspired by the silent movie realized by Harry O Hoyt in 1925. The group is doing a tour and will stop at Windhoek to share an incredible musical and visual experience. One of the first dinosaur movies of history has been dusted off in 2017 in France in a show created by the explosive jazz quintet. A creative jazz music goes along with the film punctuated by rock explosions, pop melodies and electronic sounds for a dazzling result.
