Businesswoman of the year pays Telecom a courtesy visit
Barely a month after winning the 2017 Businesswoman of the Year Award, Nangula Kauluma paid a courtesy visit to Telecom Namibia.
Accompanied by the award organiser Desèré London-Muller, Kauluma, who is also Old Mutual’s Managing Director of Short Term Insurance, was welcomed at Telecom’s head office by Chief Executive Officer Theo Klein.
Klein hailed the newly crowned top businesswoman and said his company was proud to be associated with the 2017 Businesswoman of the Year Awards.
Telecom Namibia has been financially supporting the awards for the past 14 years.
Kauluma also won the Private & Corporate Sector category.
“Our vision at Telecom Namibia is to be an ICT service provider of world-class standards and for 14 years we have been recognising and celebrating women in society and business who are doing world-class work like you,” Klein said.
He said his company values women empowerment and recognises the important role that women from all works of life play in society and acknowledges the valuable contribution that women and girls continue to make in Telecom Namibia, in other businesses and to the country at large.
The Telecom chief said efforts being made by organisations such as Telecom Namibia to create support networks for women in society and business are absolutely vital.
He urged Kauluma to make use of the platform to “make an even greater impact, inspire change, and even be the change that you wish to see in our country, especially with regard to women empowerment.”
Kauluma expressed thanks to Telecom Namibia for sponsoring the awards. The company is the key partner of the Namibian Businesswomen Projects, which include the Katuka Mentorship Programme, Northern Businesswomen Conference, The Bursary Fund, Networking Breakfasts and Businesswoman of the Year Awards.
“Being overwhelmed is an understatement. Although an introvert, I took a chance and entered the competition. I told myself that should I come through as a winner I will have a sense of responsibility towards women. My longstanding mentee convinced me that this is the perfect platform to be groomed as a leader, so I entered the competition,” Kauluma explained how she became a nominee for the awards.
I am very excited to work with Desèré [London-Muller], and the Economist Businesswomen Club as I am in the process of leveraging this platform to extend it towards creating extensive individual mentorship,” she said.
Klein made use of the visit to make good on the pledge made by Telecom Namibia to sponsor the overall winner of the awards a TN Mobile SmartLite package for a period of 12 months. This she would use as a tool to stay in touch with her networks, he said.
“I have drawn a draft eco-system and the gift from Telecom Namibia is absolutely perfect in the sense that it will help me towards mentorship on social media,” Kauluma said.
