Bokkies, Babes set to close gap on Magic
Unam Bokkies, V-Power Angels, Khomas Nampol Ladies and Poly Babes will set their sights on closing the gap on runaway Women Super League leaders Tura Magic Ladies when the football action resumes this weekend in Windhoek.
Tura Magic last weekend thumped Unam Bokkies 7-0 and inflicted the same defeat on 21 Brigade United to increase their lead at the top of the table to 33 points after 11 matches and further expand their goal difference to an unprecedented 134.
This weekend, fourth-placed Bokkies, who won their second game last weekend 6-0 against Windhoek City Girls United, face a tough challenge when they host Nampol Ladies at Unam on Saturday at 16:30.
Bokkies will then welcome Java Java Ladies on Sunday at 11:00.
Poly Babes, fifth on the log with 16 points, will face Galz and Goals at the NFA Technical Centre at 13:20 to be followed by a clash between the star-studded Tura Magic against the V-Power Girls at 15:10.
On Sunday, 21 Brigade play V-Power Girls at 08:30 while Tura Magic take on Poly Babes at 10:30 with Galz & Goals facing Nampol Ladies at 12:30.
All these matches are set to take place at the NFA Technical Centre.
Zenatha Coleman of Tura Magic is leading the scoring charts with 31 goals followed by teammate Anna Shikusho with 20 goals and Lorraine Jossob of Poly Babes and Thomalina Adams of Magic tied with 18 goals apiece in third place.
The second round of the Women Super League will now be played for 90 minutes instead of 80 to increase the match tempo and the players’ match fitness.
“We have the 2016 CAF Women Cup of Nations qualifiers coming up and our ladies are not up to standard yet,” explains Brave Gladiators head coach Jacqui Shipanga, who is one of the league administrators.
“Playing 90 minutes will give them more time to play and increase their fitness levels and their concentration. We concede a lot of goals at national level inside the last ten minutes and adding 10 minutes to the 80 we had will come in handy,” she says.
