A proud moment for Namibia
Bank Windhoek’s sister bank yesterday made history in Botswana.
NDAMA NAKASHOLE in GABORONE - Bank Windhoek’s sister bank in Botswana, called Bank Gaborone, inaugurated its own building in the heart of Botswana’s capital yesterday.
Bank Gaborone, like Bank Windhoek, is wholly-owned by a Namibian company, the Capricorn Group.
The event was attended by the Group management as well as that of Bank Windhoek.
In its 12 years of existence, Bank Gaborone has opened ten branches in Botswana.
During a media tour of one of the smaller branches at Gaborone’s Airport Junction Mall on Wednesday, the branch manager said that the bank was making good progress in trying to reach its target.
“I think we are really trying. We are trying to reach our targets towards our Vision 2020 of being Botswana’s bank of trust.”
In Gaborone alone, there are three branches including the main branch. According to the bank’s officials, a fourth branch will be opened in the new Gaborone headquarters soon.
There is a strong resemblance between Bank Windhoek and Bank Gaborone, with similar branding, themes and product offerings.
The Capricorn-owned banks both require customers to show ID documents even when depositing funds, a requirement that came into force at all Namibian banks some time ago.
The Capricorn Group says it strives to be the best when it comes to banking services.
Apart from Bank Windhoek and Bank Gaborone, the Capricorn Group also owns a bank in Zambia.
