A passion for sharing knowledge with all
Born in the Ohadiwa village, Ongenga Constituency, northern Namibia, Ester Shafashike is a mother and teacher by profession.

She attended primary school at Okambembe Combined School until standard 6, currently known as grade 8, and then continued her education at Engendjo Secondary School, where she completed standard 8 (grade 10).
After completing grade 10, Shafashike moved to Windhoek and attended the Jacob Marengo College, where she accomplished standard 10 (grade 12).
After completing her school career, she took a gap year and later said that she regretted it.
Qualified
“It ended up being two years of not going to school,” she said.
Two years later she enrolled into the University of Namibia (UNAM) where she obtained a bachelor of education in management science.
In addition to that, she holds a bachelor of education honours degree in educational management and leadership, higher certificate in accounting and a MBA in International Business. She is currently pursuing her bachelor of law degree at the University of Namibia (UNAM).
“Teaching is my only career besides being a Sunday school teacher,” she said.
Shafashike has been a teacher for the past 18 years.
She told Careers that her passion for children and being around them, is what kept her in the teaching industry for so long.
“Every time I think about moving away from teaching, I have a few learners that always keeps me going, as I want to witness their final grade 12 examinations.” she said.
Shafashike currently teaches business studies for grades 11 and 12, entrepreneurship for grades 8 to grade 10 at Etosha Secondary School, in Oshikoto region. Her responsibilities includes lesson preparations, classroom management and teaching, assessments and guidance.
Besides being a full time teacher, Shafashike is also tutors at Namibia College of Open Learning (NAMCOL) and is an assignment setter for business studies at Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) in ordinary Level.
As teacher Shafashike is always busy. If she is not teaching, sometimes even on Sundays, then she utilises het time with sport activities or doing lesson planning for the next day.
“My schedule is very tight and I hardly get time to rest.
“ I teach from home as well and that causes an imbalance between my work and my parenting responsibilities,” she said.
Her greatest achievement thus far throughout her career, is seeing her name written on a textbook cover as a co-author for Namibia College of Open Learning (NAMCOL) business studies ordinary level, Grade 10 and 11, she told Careers. “The moment when physically I held the book in my hands was indescribable. This has opened up new doors for me, to write more books and contribute to the education system of country,” she said.
The thing she loves the most about her job is the fact that a teacher is someone who has significant impact on the society and certain individuals. A teacher touches lives, inspires, nurtures and shapes the minds of children and the youth.
“Teachers can change the world by supplying children with the knowledge to become responsible citizens.” she said.
