Truck and train involved in accident in Mariental
The police in the Hardap Region opened a case of reckless and negligent driving after a train and truck were involved in an accident at Mariental yesterday.
Crime investigations coordinator for Hardap, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa on Monday the accident occurred around 11:30 on the NaTIS detour road.
“It is alleged that the driver of a Scania truck with South African registration crossed the railway crossing without checking for the oncoming train and the truck was hit and pushed for about 100 metres,” Clay said.
The 42-year-old South African driver of the truck and his passenger were slightly injured.
Police investigations continue.
