Cop arrested after fatal crash
A Windhoek-based police officer is suspected of driving drunk and causing a fatal crash that claimed two lives outside Ondangwa this morning. According to the Oshikoto police, a Toyota pickup belonging to the Namibian police, collided head-on with a Nissan bakkie on the Ondangwa-Omuthiya road. A ten-year-old passenger, Ester Magano Uushona, who was in the police vehicle as well as Natangwe Napwape Shigwedha (52) a passenger in the Nissan, died on the spot. It is alleged that the police officer was attempting to overtake a truck when the accident occurred. Three other passengers, including the driver of the Nissan pickup, escaped with injuries. The police officer remained in police custody even though he was admitted in the Omuthiya hospital. The officer is attached to the Dog Unit K9 in Windhoek and had travelled to the north to attend court proceedings at Eenhana.
