Woman arrested for abortion

Hileni Kambangula, 30, appeared in the Tsumeb Magistrate''s Court on Tuesday after she was arrested on Sunday for allegedly terminating a five-month pregnancy.

According to Commissioner Naomi Katjiua of the Oshikoto police, Kambangula deliberately took ten tablets.

Katjiua said the police were called by Kambangula''s roommate, who became suspicious after a bad smell came from the toilet where Kambangula had spent about 30 minutes.

After allegedly aborting the foetus, Kambangula allegedly placed it in a plastic bag and dumped it in the bush.

Kambangula is receiving treatment at the Tsumeb State Hospital.

The case was postponed to 16 November.



Double suicides

Two suicides were reported in the Oshikoto Region on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The first incident took place on Tuesday at Omaakuku village, where 17-year-old Joseph Sakeus, a Grade 9 learner at Oshifukwa Combined School, was found hanging from a tree in a neighbour''s mahangu field.

It is alleged that Sakeus had fought with a fellow pupil on their way from school earlier that day.

Yesterday morning, 39-year-old Severus Nampinga hanged himself from a tree next to his house at Okaliveva village in Onayena.
