Designer applications for now open

Namibia’s biggest fashion event - which attracts designers from all corners of Namibia and their continental counterparts from South Africa, Zambia, Rwanda and Angola, to name a few, is themed ‘Made in Namibia’ this year.

The event, scheduled for 2 to 6 November, will celebrate everything proudly Namibian.

The fashion industry is growing rapidly with new designers showcasing and new models being added to the runway line-ups. With this rapid growth, the event’s organisers have created a platform to celebrate and allow Namibian and international designers to showcase their collections and collaborate.

The MTC Windhoek Fashion Week is also in talks with other organisations across Africa to give an opportunity to Namibian designers to showcase continentally.

“We will share more information about this in due time,” the organisers said in a statement.

Applications open

Meanwhile, designer applications for the fashion showcase are officially open.

Student/start-up, emerging and established designers can apply to showcase this year.

“There is an application fee of N$250 payable upon submitting the online application form. Designers need to visit our website whkfashionweek.com and apply online. Only online applications will be accepted,” the statement read.

Applications close on Saturday, 15 May.

The statement also revealed that model castings will be done in Ongwediva, Swakopmund and Windhoek, while exact dates will be communicated soon.

“There will also be a model masterclass to prepare all the models before the castings to ensure that they have the necessary knowledge. Everyone is welcome to attend the masterclass.”
