Lavinia Haitope and Kepas Kondjashili won the female and male category at the Omaruru Street Mile at the weekend.

Haitope clocked 5:00 minutes while Kondjashili ran an impressive 04:11.

Alina Armas took second place in the female category with a time of 5:08, while Leena Ekandjo had to settle for third with a time of 5:15.

Sylvester Koko was second in the male category and was followed by David Dam in third.

Erongo regional sport officer Berthold Karumendu said the annual Omaruru Street mile was a success.

“The seventh edition of the Erongo Powersave Street Mile was again something of the past with 1 086 participants yesterday.

“I think in general it is a good number due to the economic situation in the country,” Karumendu said.

The event was made possible with support by Namibia/Powersave Wholesale, Pasta Polana, FNB - Omaruru Branch and Coca-Cola Namibia Bottling Company as the official drinks sponsor.

“Also thanks those one who were involved - the ministry of health and social services, Omaruru hospital for the ambulance, the Namibian Police traffic department, the officials and marshal and technical team as well - they contributed towards the event success,” Karumendu said.

Karumendu is optimistic that the event will be successful again next year.
