The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) will contest the Oshakati East by-election and has chosen 46-year-old paralegal practitioner Festus Damomwene Shaduva as its candidate.

The Oshakati East by-election will take place in the Oshana Region on 24 August following the death of the former constituency councillor, Lotto Kuushomwa, in May this year.

NEFF commissar for policy research and political education, Abraham Ndumbu announced the party's participation in the by-election at a media briefing in Oshakati on Wednesday.

“NEFF, through its structure, has identified a potential candidate that is suitable for the constituency,” Ndumbu stated, adding that Shaduva is a well-tested leader, who has served in many leadership positions.

Shaduva previously served as a student activist in the Namibia National Students Organisation, Namibia Red Cross, Students' Christian Movement and is a human rights defender, he said.

He went on to say that Shaduva is also one of the unemployed health ministry-trained community health extension workers and served as the first president of the Namibia Red Cross Society youth volunteer programme.

“The man we are about to introduce to you has the capacity to work with communities in projects of any kind,” said Ndumbu.

On his part, Shaduva promised to spearhead a community-centred development such as mobilising resources for the development of sanitation throughout the constituency once he is elected as the councillor.
