MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy promoter Nestor Tobias has revealed that the academy will wait for World Boxing Organisation (WBO) officials to revisit Friday’s decision which saw his boxer losing a belt in Ghana.

Sebastianus Nathanael suffered a career setback on Friday night after Ghanaian John Laryea dethroned the Namibian and claimed his WBO Africa featherweight belt.

The referee stopped the fight in the fourth round due to a cut on the former champion’s left eye in Accra, Ghana.

“I really do not know what kind of decision that was, but we have definitely logged a complaint with the WBO to revisit their decision.

“The fight was just fine and the boxer had a small cut on his eye but was fit enough to continue.

“Surprisingly, the referee stopped the fight and awarded the victory to the Ghanaian,” Tobias said in a telephonic interview from Ghana.

It was Nathanael’s first title defence since winning the WBO featherweight title against Jeremiah Mhere in April.

“This is definitely not the final decision and we will have to wait for an authentic decision.

“Nathanael is a strong and talented boxer who could have gone on to win this fight had it not been stopped in such a manner.

“We are flying from Ghana and expect to share more details with the press and members of the public by Monday [today],” Tobias added.
