Since bursting onto the scene a few years ago, Lioness has dropped several hits.

Now, on her anticipated follow-up to 2018's Pride of CilQ, the rapper explores love.

Set to be released on Friday, 8 May, Lioness' second album, titled Wish You Were Here, will be available for pre-order on digital platforms as of tomorrow, 1 May.

“This album will be a new sound for me. It'll have a focus on Afro sounds as well as R&B. It will also feature local and international artists,” she exclusively revealed.

All about love

On what informed her lyrical content for this project, she mentioned that the main theme is love.

“On Wish You Were Here, I share common experiences I had in my past and recent relationships,” Lioness said.

She added that she worked with Namibia's Waters, Cool Under Pressure and Space, as well as Nigeria's Ogranya.

“I also worked with an artist from Ghana with whom I was in Mr Eazi's Empawa top 10 camp.

“The producers vary from DJ KBoz, Chris Wayne, Brown Klaxic, Simba Tags from Zimbabwe, DJ Dreas and Synx from Nigeria,” the rapper said.

Corona impact

On the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on the rollout plan for Wish You Were Here, Lioness said they had to push the release date back before the extension was announced. She however ensured that they will stick to the new date.

“We had also planned a listening party that we had to cancel. We will now be focusing all our efforts on online marketing,” she said.

New sound

Lioness said that although this will be a new sound for fans, it is still authentic and very much her.

She said she hopes fans will love this album just as much as, if not more than, the last one. “After listening to this album, I want fans to walk away with the fact that we are all human and love is the greatest emotion one can experience and must share, good or bad,” she said.
