A man was arrested last weekend at Omuthiya for the rape of his underaged daughter, who is now pregnant with his child.

According to the police, the rapes occurred between February and March at Onalunike village.

It is alleged that the 43-year-old man used to call his 17-year-old daughter into his bedroom, before undressing and raping her.

This happened on two separate occasions and the girl, who is in Grade 9, is now four months pregnant.

The man has been arrested.

Henties gallows

Meanwhile at Henties Bay, police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property after vandals attempted to burn down the gallows monument at the town. According to the police, the suspect or suspects used methylated spirits to set the statue alight. They also tried to chop it down, but failed.

The rope on the monument was also removed. The motive for the incident is unclear, but the monument has evoked mixed feelings recently, with some describing it as a racist symbol.

A social media storm recently erupted around the wooden stump and hangman's noose installed at the town more than 40 years ago as a warning against littering.
