The Namibian police team searching for missing constable Ipuleni Aihuki discovered a human leg on the bank of the Kunene River on Wednesday morning.

Aihuki (27) drowned in the river near the Otjipahuriro entertainment area on Saturday, 25 September. The police suspect the leg might belong to the deceased, Omusati regional commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, said.

It is still unclear what time the drowning occurred, however, Aihuki was reportedly out with four friends for a day of fun at the time of the incident.

Shikongo said preliminary investigations revealed that the friends were socialising when the deceased went into the water to swim, but submerged and disappeared into the strong currents.

A combined team of police officers from Omusati and the police’s water rescue team from Kunene has been searching the river using boats since Saturday, he said, adding that the team has been joined by locals from Angola and Namibia.

The remains are currently being kept at the Okahao police mortuary pending DNA results. Police investigations into the matter continue.
