Although a Chamber of Agriculture for Namibia had been planned for some time, its founding and the adoption of its constitution finally took place on 1 October this year.

According to the Namibia Agriculture Union (NAU), the vision of the Chamber is to act as a joint voice of the private agricultural value chain (including SOEs) to establish a supportive business environment within which the agricultural sector can grow.

During the establishment, a management committee was elected, tasked with the responsibility of realising the vision.

This committee consists of representatives of various agricultural unions, input suppliers, financiers, buyers of agricultural products and also other agricultural role-players.

The first meeting of the steering committee took place recently, where priorities were defined for 2022.

One of the main strategic pillars of the NAU is the promotion of synergies within the agricultural sector, and therefore it supports the establishment of the Chamber of Agriculture.

The NAU says it looks forward to co-operation between all role players in order to increase the economic contribution of the total agricultural value chain.
