The Affirmative Repositioning movement's application to participate in the upcoming local and regional authority elections at Walvis Bay and Swakopmund has been approved by the Electoral Commission of Namibia.

Chief electoral officer Theo Mujoro announced the approval of both AR branches to compete as organisations in the upcoming by-elections.

“The commission took note of the content of your letter and since your latest application fulfilled all the legal requirements of section 148 of the Electoral Act, 5 of 2014, resolved that Affirmative Repositioning Walvis Bay and AR Swakopmund be registered as an organisation for the respective local authorities,” he said. Mujoro added that a government notice of the Electoral Act had been drafted and would be submitted to the legislative drafting directorate in the ministry of justice. Following scrutiny by the legal drafters, the notice would be open for inspection for 30 days from the date of application for the lodging of objections, he explained.
