Three children raped over the weekendThree suspects have been arrested for the rape of minors in different regions of the country on Saturday.

A 24-year-old man allegedly raped a 11-month-old baby girl at Eendadi village, Ondobe, on Saturday.

It is alleged that the man took the baby from their house and ran with her into the bushes where he raped her. Both the victim and suspect were transported to Engela District Hospital for medical attention. The suspect is being held at the Ohangwena police station.

In another incident on Saturday at Khorixas a 12-year-old girl was raped, allegedly by her 52-year-old neighbour.

It is alleged that he called her to take N$1 and when she refused, he grabbed her and dragged her into his shack. He apparently tied her mouth with a cloth and raped her. The suspect has been arrested.

At Farm Roots in the Stampriet area, a 25-year-old security guard sexually molested a girl whose age is not known.

According to the police the guard invited a boy and a girl to his home. He then asked the girl to bake bread for him and thereafter ordered both to remove their clothing and sexually molested the girl. The boy managed to escape and reported the crime to their parents. The suspect was arrested.

Court burglary

A 30-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday morning in connection with a break-in at the Katutura Magistrate’s Court, where several laptop computers were stolen.

According to the police the suspect was shot as he tried to flee.

The break-in allegedly happened between Thursday 21:00 and Friday 04:30. It was discovered at 07:30 on Sunday morning when employees reported for duty.

According to the police, CCTV footage showed how two unknown suspects with balaclavas had entered the yard and broken in.

The police suspected the burglars were hiding on the roof and surrounded the building to prevent their escape.

One suspect attempted to flee from the court building early in the morning. Shots were fired to halt the fleeing suspect and he was wounded and subsequently apprehended. He is currently under police guard in the Katutura State Hospital.

A buyer of two other stolen court laptops was also arrested.

The police added that two other laptops were recovered in a bus heading to Oshikango on Sunday morning.

“Thus, far six laptops were recovered by the police. Altogether, three suspects (30, 40 and 50 years old) are currently arrested; two charged with housebreaking and theft and one with possession of stolen goods.”
