Captain Gerhard Erasmus led the Namibian Eagles from the front on Sunday when he knocked 59 runs from 43 balls (59/43) as his side beat Zimbabwe on their home ground by six wickets to level the ongoing T20 international series.
The two sides are now 2-all – this means that whoever wins today’s match, wins the series.
The series started on Tuesday. Namibia lost their opening match. They then went on to win their second match on Thursday.
However, Saturday wasn’t too favourable for Pierre de Bruyn’s team as they cheaply lost wickets off openers and eventually lost by 8 wickets.
They then trailed 2-1. All was not lost; Zane Green reached a milestone when he played in his 50th T20 match for Namibia.
On Sunday, the Namibians arrived more determined and with a bit of luck on their side, they won the toss and opted to bowl, first restricting Zimbabwe to 157 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs (157/8) (20).
Erasmus was named player of the match for his excellent unbeaten half-century that helped seal the Eagles’s win.
Erasmus said in a post-match interview that they were excited for today’s match.
“It’s on their home ground. The crowd was up for it. It was special. In the final you want to put a perfect performance together. But the results are always not in your control in cricket.
“At the moment the two sides are equally matched. It’s going to be a great experience with a lot of pressure. If we nail our processes, play good cricket and stick to our strengths I think we can come up on tops. The match will start at 13:00.
