Rapes and murder dominate weekend

A 78-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

The incident happened at Etunda village in the Omusati Region on Friday. According to Omusati Police, the man was caught in the act by his wife while raping the girl and he confessed that it was not the first time he committed the act and had done it on the girl over and over again before. He was arrested on Friday and was set to appear in the Outapi Magistrates Court on Tuesday. His name could not be released before his court appearance. Another 15-year-old was raped by a neighbour who went into the girl’s hut early morning on Thursday.

The incident happened at Oitende village at Outapi. The suspect is still on the run from Police after the incident was reported. A 35-year-old man was killed in a shebeen in the Ohangwena Region. The incident happened at Omutonda village in the Okongo Constituency. Fillipus Daniel was fatally stabbed in the neck and died on the spot after a fight broke out. The suspect, Tangeni Timoteus, 26, was arrested and appeared at the Eenhana Magistrates Court today (Tuesday) on charges of murder and remains in Police custody after his case was remanded to 4 April 2011.

Ohangwena Police Deputy Commissioner Abner Agas confirmed the incident saying though the cause of the brawl is not known, the two men were allegedly drinking at a shebeen over the weekend together at around 21h00. They got into an argument and Timoteus drew a knife and stabbed Daniel in the neck.

Timoteus then fled the scene but he was tracked down and arrested on the same evening. A case of murder is being investigated.
