Policeman to face murder charge

THE Katima Mulilo Policeman charged with murdering a man at the town by kicking him in the stomach, made his first appearance in Katima Mulilo Magistrate Court yesterday.

The case was postponed to May 31 2010 for further investigation. Mutilifa Mordekai (32) allegedly kicked Sinvula Alberto Sinvula (30) on Sunday evening after he tried to escape from the Katima Mulilo Police Station. The incident happened on Sunday evening when NamPol Officers were patrolling and came across a group of four people in a vehicle. The people were under the influence of liquor and were taken to the Katima Mulilo Police Station.

According to the Regional Police Commander of Caprivi, Tylves Kampolo, Sinvula tried to escape from the Police Station and was followed by three Police Officers. Kampolo said one of the officers allegedly kicked him in the stomach and later took Sinvula to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead. The three other people who were with Sinvula in the vehicle were released on Monday morning.
