The record-breaking singer says the ex-lover who inspired her mega successful album 21 left her “angry, bitter, lonely and devastated. I tried to learn to drive but that didn’t really work,” she said.

“I didn’t keep up my lessons. I was recovering from a severe break-up so I was drinking a lot so I imagine I was over the limit for most of them.” Now she says her heavy heart is bottled up in the chart-topping record.

“We met before I did my first album,” she said of her ex, whose identity she is yet to reveal. “The first song I wrote for this record was in April 2009 when we were still together and I wrote ‘Take It All’, which is about someone not loving you.” It was then the curtain came down on the 22-year-old’s dream romance.

“I was really angry, then I was bitter, then I was really lonely and then I was devastated. It was in that order – the record,” she told America’s People website.

Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ is a current new entry at number 2 on the 99Fm Top 30.
