Swapo overturns decision on Helao Nafidi deputy mayor
After having been informed to leave office by 5 August, Helao Nafidi deputy mayor Panduleni Hainghumbi was reinstated by Swapo.
The reinstatement was announced in a letter to Hainghumbi written by Swapo’s Ohangwena regional coordinator, Hafeni Hatutale.
“The higher office of the Swapo Party has overruled the political decision of 27 July 2016 and reinstated you as Swapo Party councillor for Helao Nafidi., thus nullifying this office’s letter of 2 August 2016 to you.
“Apology to you for the inconvenience this event might have caused you or your family and as Swapo cadre, you will continue in the spirit of comradeship and serve the people,” the letter read.
Last week Namibian Sun reported that the Swapo Politburo had directed Hatutale in a letter written by secretary-general Nangolo Mbumba to ensure that Hainghumbi left office no later than 5 August.
The reason for Haighumbi’s removal was to make way for Lucia Nghililewanga in the Helao Nafidi town council. She was number two on the party’s candidate list for the election but was replaced just before the swearing-in ceremony on 4 December 2015. Swapo won six of the seven council seats in Helao Nafidi.
Contacted for comment, Haighumbi said she was left speechless after receiving the letter and that she couldn’t comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, it is still not clear what will happen to Nghidimbwa. Several attempts to get comment from Mbumba and Hatutale were unsuccessful yesterday.
