Facebook comments land Nashinge in hot water
The SPYL is taking disciplinary action against one of its members because of comments made on Facebook.
The Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) is taking disciplinary action against one of its former National Executive Committee members, Immanuel Nashinge, for congratulating axed SPYL secretary for information Job Amupanda on his new job.
Others to face similar charges are former SPYL NEC member Paulus Mbango and Reinhold Shipwiikineni.
In a letter dated 12 August 2016, written by SPYL secretary for labour and justice Sidney Ganeb, Nashinge was given notice of the charges against him.
“It is alleged that you have committed certain disciplinary infractions whilst in the leadership of the Youth League. The particulars of the charges are set out in the charge sheet,” Ganeb wrote.
Ganeb said a disciplinary hearing will take place on 19 September.
Among the documents attached to the notice of misconduct was Nashinge’s sharing of a Namibian Sun article headlined ‘Job lands top job’ following Amupanda’s appointment as deputy dean of Unam’s Faculty of Economic and Management Science. “Son of the soil, congratulations! When you don’t clap for favours, when you don’t sell out for a dish of curry and when you refuse to be a Zombie this is what happens. Job Shipululo Amupanda, congratulations, God Bless You! Zombies won’t breathe proper today,” Nashinge wrote on Facebook.
SPYL spokesperson Neville Andre Itope said the cases of Nashinge, Mbango and Shipwiikineni were referred to the disciplinary committee by the SPYL Central Committee.
The hearing might divide the already fractured SPYL. The youth wing has remained divided since former SPYL secretary Elijah Ngurare and Amupanda were expelled. The High Court later ordered the party to reverse the expulsion.
In February, SPYL acting secretary Veikko Nekundi compared some of Nashinge’s Facebook posts to the infamous ‘Nyamu notes’. Former Swapo leader Jesaya Nyamu was expelled from the party after the discovery of notes that he allegedly wrote, which urged Swapo members, especially the supporters of then presidential aspirant Hidipo Hamutenya, to cause havoc in the party and eventually form a political organisation of their own.
Nekundi said the Central Committee had analysed the “unbecoming behaviour” of Nashinge and Mbango.
“The meeting with seriousness considered among others the following written call by Comrade Nashinge supported by Comrade Mbango: ‘We must move on the direction of a two-party system if we want to take our motherland to heights! The time is now! Dominant one-party system promotes complacency, arrogance and in some cases, corruption real corruption and looting’. The Central Committee considered this Nashinge Agenda as a very serious matter of equal value to the Nyamu notes,” Nekundi said.
