Drowning believed to be suicide
The Oshana police on Wednesday afternoon retrieved the lifeless body of 42-year-old Gideon Nehale from the NamWater dam in Oshakati. He is believed to have committed suicide a week ago following a gruesome panga attack on his lover.
Police at the scene identified the body saying that they noticed while tracking Nehale last week Tuesday for a vicious attack on his 32-year-old lover, that Nehale’s tracks disappeared near the dam.
The deceased’s family has been informed.
According to an investigator, a NamWater employee notified the police when he came across a cut on the cover of the dam’s surface and saw the shape of a body and found Nehale’s body floating on the surface under the dam cover.
The body was retrieved around 17:00 by two police divers who cut open the cover, pulled out the body from the dam and loaded the body onto a stretcher for transfer to the police morgue.
On 9 August, Nehale who worked for NamWater allegedly invited his girlfriend to his residence at Sky location around 06:00 to collect their eight-year-old son.
Upon her arrival at his house however, she was attacked repeatedly with a panga by Nehale. After the incident, Nehale disappeared and the police have been searching for him ever since.
The victim of Nehale’s panga attack is still recovering at the Oshakati State Intermediate Hospital.
