Afro-pop is the new kwaito
Jay R is the Namibian artist that makes international music
The music me and you is Jay R’s first album ever since he came in the industry years ago and he didn’t want to be selfish with his first offering so he put 21 tracks on the album! Although some of the tracks are dedicated to his then girlfriend, Jay R ensures tjil that the songs are for everyone who enjoys good music on a good day. “My album is unique because it is a different new sound, Afro-pop and more African on an international context. I also have a few RnB songs, it’s an all-in-one,” said Jay R.
The first song on the album is Naturally which is one of his hit songs and has an afro pop beat to it that will get you on your feet. “The song was written for my girlfriend who wasn’t very supportive of my career. She always thought I was up to no good when I’d tell her I’m recording. So this is me assuring her and its quite catchy too,” said Jay R. The second song is Sawale which is a word he came up with on his way to the mall and it turned into an RnB tune. “Immediately when the tune popped into my head I got back into a cab and went straight to my producer. The song was written and produced the very same day within three hours,” said Jay R. Baby ooh is what Jay R describes as a very powerful song. “My girlfriend back then was my inspiration when it came to my musical career. I dedicated it to her and I was in love I guess. It is an appreciative song and one will relate when they hear it trust me,” said Jay R.
The African pop star said he loves how Justin Bieber somehow dedicated his latest album to his very deep feelings and that’s the feel he was going for too. “I would like someone to listen to my music and you won’t ask me how I am doing because my music already speaks for me,” he said. It is also the reason why Jay R opted to have 21 tracks on one album because his fans must know him from when he started out to what he is now after gaining experience.
Jay R already has two music videos out from the album and he plans on producing three more this year. He is currently busy with the preparations of the launch and the date will be revealed soon. “My fans can get all the details from my social media pages and I would like to thank them all for the support and the patience,” said Jay R.
