Zambezi vendors raise concerns over powercuts

Vendors at the Zambezi Bream Cultural Festival Expo in Katima Mulilo have raised concern over the lack of electricity at their stalls since Saturday, saying the power cuts are eating into their profits.

The vendors, who paid N$1,500 for their stalls, say some have been forced to repeatedly buy ice to keep drinks cold, while the lack of electricity has also left their stalls without music and entertainment.

Katima Mulilo mayor Kabende Kabende said they have been pleading with NORED to resolve the problem, but “bureaucratic bottlenecks” have delayed a solution. He apologised to the vendors and said trading hours would be extended to help them recover losses.
