Vandals target Okahandja main income substation
An emergency power-switching operation was underway yesterday on the Okahandja 11kV town network as CENORED replaced vandalised equipment and repaired damage caused by copper cable theft at the Okahandja 11kV Main Incomer Substation. Corporate Communications and Marketing spokesperson Chali Matengu said vandals had targeted the substation and its main incomer over the past three days.
He said the first two incidents occurred in Veddersdal on Monday and Tuesday, while the latest attack took place overnight, into the early hours of this morning, when copper cables were cut from the Main Incomer.
Matengu said technical teams are busy replacing the damaged cables and that electricity supply was expected to be restored as soon as the repairs were completed.
