Namibian nurse eyes global prize
Namibian nurse Josephine Nelago Angula will travel to India this month as a top-10 finalist in the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Awards 2026, with the winner set to receive US$250 000.
“This recognition is not only a personal milestone, but also a proud moment for Namibia and for every nurse who continues to serve communities with compassion, resilience and dedication,” she says.
Angula founded Betesda Medical Centre in 2002 in a small rented space to provide affordable care to underserved communities.
She has since transformed the facility into an Urban Large Day Clinic, integrating medical, dental and radiology services and significantly improving access to diagnostics, continuity of care and early disease detection in her community.
The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award honours exceptional nurses across the world.
The finals will take place in India on 12 September.
