Iyaloo Women funds N$62 500 Onekondjelo classroom block

Learners at Onekondjelo Primary School in the Ompundja Circuit in Oshana now have reason to smile after receiving a new classroom block consisting of three classrooms valued at N$62 500.

The initiative was made possible through the corporate social responsibility programme of the Iyaloo Women Investment Group, with significant support from Maria Sheyanale, a community member from Oshinyadhila No. 1 and a shareholder of the company.

For years, Onekondjelo Primary School faced a critical shortage of classrooms, which compelled some learners to attend classes at other schools. 

"This situation disrupted learning, placed a burden on parents and teachers, and challenged our vision of providing quality education under one roof," Sheyanale said during the handover.

The three new classrooms "represent hope, progress and the possibilities that arise when a community unites with a common purpose", she added.

The group spent N$10 000 on cement, building sand and school-made bricks; N$15 000 for additional building materials; N$25 000 for roofing; and N$12 500 to electrify the building.

The community also contributed N$30 000 to the project, showcasing strong local investment and support.

In her keynote address, Lianah Bock, director of Iyaloo Women Investment, expressed pride in the company's foundation and leadership, which is rooted in Namibian women. 

“At Iyaloo Women Investment Group, we believe that investing in people, especially children, is investing in our nation's future. Our commitment transcends business. It focuses on creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and contributing to sustainable development,” Bock said.

She emphasised that education is one of the most crucial investments a nation can make.

"A classroom is much more than bricks and sand; it is a place where young minds are nurtured, character is developed, dreams are born, and future leaders embark on their journey."

Bock encouraged learners to seize the opportunity. "Cherish this gift. Study diligently, respect your teachers, support one another, and always believe in yourselves. Education is a key that can open doors that no one can ever close."

Bock also paid tribute to the teachers for their unwavering dedication. "Your role extends far beyond imparting knowledge. You inspire confidence, build character, and prepare the leaders of tomorrow."

The new classrooms are anticipated to alleviate congestion, ensuring that all Onekondjelo learners can now receive quality education under one roof.
