After six years as member and backup singer for the OmLilo group, the man has broken loose and recently released his debut solo album - already available on music shelves.

He has performed as a backup singer for the OmLilo group since 2006, with a dying desire to eventually go solo. Finally after so many years, Waka released a 14-track album, Mondabo, which he describes as modernised Kwaito, Kwasa kwasa, Afro-pop and a bit of Oviritje sounds.

“He is very talented and a hard worker, therefore we fully support him,” said owner of OmLilo Records Mekox Kanana. (Waka is signed to the label.)

Arafat, Kapro, Wisemen and PIMP are but some of the producers who assisted in making this album become a reality and contributed greatly with their skills to the “modernised sounds”.
“I sing about everything, including parties, social life, love and life’s journey in general,” an excited Waka told tjil!, adding that he wrote most of the lyrics himself, with contributionss by other artists here and there.

Newturn, Upambians, Kanyax, Mekox and Juels are all artists who feature and add flavour to what Mekox expects to be a successful album.

Waka has already started with public performances. He describes his experiences as a solo artist so far as overwhelming and exciting. “I have waited long for this, and I intend to make a success and excel in what I live for.”

He was born in Oshakati but grew up in Omaruru. “I am from the 064,” he proudly says.

“What makes my album unique and different is the fact that it caters for all ages, from young to old, and that many can relate to what I sing about. Even the beats of the songs vary in order to cater for all ages.”

Mondabo is available at Universal Sounds and other selected music retailers in the country.
