Linda makes a Golden and Cool entrance
She only turns 16 this year, but has just completed recording a full album. The Grade 9-learner is determined to make her mark in the local music industry - with another album expected to be released within a year.
Golden and Cool is the name of Linda’s debut album - ranging from RnB and a variety of different African sounds.
The young Caprivian lady worked on this 19-track album in her free time for a year. What also impressed tjil! is that she wrote most of the lyrics herself - with assistance here and there from family members and friends, especially with translations to the African languages she freely uses throughout the tracks.
“My next album will be released next year,” the learner from Academia High School excitedly told tjil!. “I am not going to stick to one genre. The public will experience different types of music on this album.”
One would think that as a teenager her target market would rather be youngsters, but Linda, whose real name is Pendukeni Linda Simasiku, made it quite clear that Golden and Cool caters for almost all ages.
Her manager, George Simaata, is the executive producer of the album and Kester da Nostra at Supreme Records & Entertainment the main producer. Majbeats and Glo from Lash Attractions also did work on some of the tracks. Other artists include, among others, Lil D, Fishman, Kester and Mushe.
“Music has always been a part of me and I will work hard to make it work in my life,” said Linda. She added that many singles she wants to use for next year’s album can be expected throughout 2012.
Tracks from Golden and Cool tracks are already being played on local radio stations.
The girl even has tracks dedicated to her mom and dad. Mama and My Dad focus on her appreciation for her parents for the way they brought her up, while I Believe - a song she also wrote herself - is encouragement to others to never give up, “even if you feel down”.
tjil! will most definitely review this album in due course.
Golden and Cool is available at Universal Sounds and Antonio Arts in the capital, as well as at Sabina Bar in Eveline Street. In Rundu it can be bought at Starlite Studio, while Katima Mulilo music lovers can get it at Mr. Music and the Let’s Go Bar.
