GET READY: Old and young can participate in the Mountain Bike Race to be held at Gobabis later this month..
Old and young should get ready for the Gobabis Spar’s first ever Mountain Bike Race to be held in the town - with huge prizes up for grabs.
Not only will this Mountain Bike Race offer bikers a fun and challenging track, there is also N$20 000 worth of prizes to be won.
The event takes place on Saturday, 23 June and participants can choose between a distance of either 15km or 40km to race.
The race kicks off at 13:00 on Saturday at Gobabis Spar and the finish point will be at the Ben van der Walt Primary School where everybody is invited to enjoy a Fun Day with plenty of activities, including games and a braai.
The race is divided into four categories and in each category there will be three winners. The categories are Veterans (older than 45 years), Elite (19 to 44 years), Juniors (14 to 18) and Boys and Girls (10 to 13).
The entry for the race is free and late registrations will still be accepted between 11:00 and 12:00 on Saturday.
The Mountain Bike Race is also held in celebration of the third birthday of Gobabis Spar which takes place during June. It was therefore decided to hold the event to celebrate the day with the community.
It is anticipated that about 200 people will participate in the mountain bike race.
“We had good feedback and even if we start out small this year it is going to become an annual event,” said owner of the Gobabis Spar, Pierre Venter.
Other sponsors of the race are also TrenTyre and Wimpy at Gobabis.
