NAMA 2012 nominations kick off
The nominations for the NAMA (Namibian Annual Music Awards) kicked off on a high note in the capital recently. At the pre-nominations it was announced that from the 781 entries received, a total of 288 qualified.
MTC Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affair Officer Tim Ekandjo says they received “very good entries” from non-Namibian artists residing in Namibia.
“Rules, however, disqualify them, but the NAMA Executive Committee will discuss the possibility of a non-Namibian category for next year to recognise and accommodate their distribution.”
Ekandjo says the judges have started with the judging process. “We will have a minimum of three and a maximum of five nominees in each category. The judges have been cleared by the public and we have receive no objections.”
A nomination launch will take place on March 3 at D Club (old La Dee Das Club) by invitation only.
Ekandjo further says there is a large amount of requests from different artists to perform at the NAMA events. The have therefore asked all those to come and give them an idea of what their performances entail.
“This is not an audition or to test whether Namibian artists can perform but to give the organising committee an opportunity to see performances which they have not seen before,” says Ekandjo.
It will take place today at the NTN from 09:00 to 13:00.
The date and the venue for the main awards are still to be confirmed.
“We promise something special and memorable this year,” Ekandjo concluded. He, however, flatly refused to answer any questions about Lady May, who last year caused quite the scene at the event.
